Joseph F. Downey, age 64, of Fife Lake, passed away on December 31, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother and loyal friend, Joe was known for always keeping those around him laughing and well-fed.
The son of the late James and Lorraine (Rennie) Downey, Joe was born on January 23, 1961, in Braintree, Massachusetts, where he maintained close family ties and lifelong friendships. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his dear children, Brian (Kristin) and Katie (Ali); and his treasured grandchildren, Lily, Aiden, Zane, and Norah. Joe was also a loving brother to Gerrilyn (Bob), James (Carole), John (Lisa), Jeffrey, and Genevieve (Wayne).
A talented carpenter, Joe built a career as a respected residential and commercial builder. His craftsmanship took him across the country, where he played a key role in renovating hotels and commercial properties following natural disasters.
In retirement, Joe found his happy place in Fife Lake, Michigan, where he built a close-knit community of friends and filled his days with the things he loved most—enjoying nature, boating, birdwatching and going for rides with his constant companion, his dog, Cooper. Joe was also an active and proud member of American Legion Post 219.

The family will greet guests from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd., Clinton Twp., Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00am on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Rd., Clinton Twp. In State from 9:30am until time of mass. Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Twp.
