She attended Harper Woods schools and graduated from Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores in 2015. She was currently enrolled at Michigan State University majoring in neuroscience. Her goal was to become a physician’s assistant focused in pediatric oncology.
Katie was a gifted artist, with the ability to turn everything into a work of art. She had a passion for travel and foreign cultures and loved to learn.
Though diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2017, Katie continued to use her sense of humor, charisma and strength to unite those around her and battle cancer while attending classes and interning at Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) since that same year.
Katie is survived by her father, Gerald and stepmother, Shannon of Clinton Township, her mother, Denise and fiancé, Ron of White Lake, and sisters Jennifer of Rochester Hills, Becky of Grand Rapids, and Emily of East Lansing. She also leaves behind so many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America to help shine a light on the desperate need to cure this aggressive cancer and the side effects and repercussions that go with it. More information can be found at curesarcoma.org.
Visiting hours will be held at Kaul Funeral Home 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, on Friday, October 18 from 2 to 9 p.m. and then on Saturday, October 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following at 11 a.m.
