In the late 1940's, the family moved to the Detroit area where he played basketball and graduated from Warren Fitzgerald High School. Lou enjoyed a long career with hobby wholesale distributors, and spent his spare time coaching his sons' soccer and basketball teams.
After retiring, he dedicated his time to his family. He enjoyed holiday celebrations, visits with his children and grandchildren, watching Detroit sports, and listening to big band music. He was affectionately known as Sweet Lou, and loved telling stories while talking with everyone he met. Always a joker, Lou had a great sense of humor and could bring a smile to anyone's face.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Wray) Collins, sister Phyllis Collins and his children Carrie (Chris) Teal, Coleen Weiss, Patrick (Melanie) Collins, and Kevin (Erica) Collins. He is also survived by his grandchildren Skylar and Olivia Teal, Phoebe and Sean Weiss, and Isla and Everly Collins. He will be missed deeply by his canine buddy Shorty.
A memorial luncheon will take place at Fern Hill Golf Club (17600 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township Michigan 49038) Saturday, May 30th at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
