Mao Yang Cha, born October 9th, 1957 to Mr. and Mrs. Yu Theng Yang, sister to 5 brothers and 5 sisters, wife to Lu Vang Cha, mother to 7 boys and 3 girls, 3 son-in-laws and 2 daughter-in-laws, and a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren. She led a humble life even when she walked different paths, as a farmer, assembly line worker, homemaker, seamstress, baker, and a healer. She was most gracious in helping those seeking her wisdom and knowledge of medicinal plants and holistic approaches. Her healing hands had a green thumb, for she was talented with coaxing plants to life and making them thrive. Throughout her life, she had the talent for being creative with limited resources, recycling, reusing and renewing everything. She was loyal and selfless, devoting her life to God and her family first. As the wife of a Hmong Catechist, she used her strong spiritual beliefs to support her husband in praying for family, friends, the sick, and community members.
Her life’s journey started in Sayaboury, Laos. In 1975 her family immigrated to the Nam Yao refugee camp in Changwat Nan, Thailand to escape the Vietnam War. While in Thailand, she married Lu Vang Cha in 1976 and they came to America in 1979. They first lived in Rhode Island and later moved around the states from Ohio to California and then back to Michigan.
