She was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 18, 1937, the only daughter of Victor and Cecilia Goecke.
Marlene was one of three children. As a young adult, Marlene moved to Florida to attend a convent where she became a nun. Marlene was a nun for many years, and during that time also worked to become a teacher as well. She eventually moved back to Michigan to care for her parents, and moved on to become a computer programmer, working first for Standard Federal, and later for Kmart. Though Marlene’s life took a different direction and she was no longer a nun, she still lived a life dedicated to God and the Catholic Church. Marlene also was a generous person, and donated to many charities. She will be deeply missed.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Arthur Goecke, her sisters-in-law Sandy Goecke and Bonnie Goecke, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Cecilia Goecke, and her brother, John Goecke.
An instate for Marlene will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 from 9:00 AM until time of the funeral mass at 9:30 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48313. A chapel committal service will follow at 11:00 at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038.
