Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1957, Mike began his career at age 15 at the Metro Detroit grocery chain Farmer Jack. He worked diligently through the years, becoming part of the management team, where he trained and mentored new employees and built lifelong friendships. Before retiring, he also served as a manager for Kroger.
Mike was the ultimate Detroit sports fan. Whether it was the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, or Pistons — Michigan or Michigan State — if a game was on, Mike was watching. He also loved the Utah Utes and the TCU Horned Frogs.
Mike also loved going up north to his family’s cottage in the Thumb, where many happy summers were spent fishing in the canal, taking car rides to watch for deer, and enjoying a scoop of Superman ice cream, which was also his favorite superhero.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Loretto Monacelli.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Erika Bradbury (Mark Monacelli); son, Andrew Bradbury (Shelby); siblings, Larry Monacelli, Mary Lewis (Bob), Diane Hunt (Chris), and Jim Monacelli; sisters-in-law, Lil and Dianne; nieces and nephews, Megan Lewis, Tom Lewis, Andrea Gillett (Matt), and Mat Hunt; and great-nephews and niece, Owen, Benjamin, and Madelyn.
Cherished friends include Gary and Gail Benoit, Charlie Canton, John Hart, and Leo Loria.
Cremation services were provided by Resurrection Funeral Home. At Mike’s request, there will be no formal funeral services. However, in his honor, donations are encouraged to Disabled American Veterans, an organization Mike generously supported.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for their support, compassion, and exemplary care of Mike during his final months.
