Patricia P. Lewis Sowa, 74, of Fishers, Indiana (formerly Sterling Heights, MI) passed away January 16, 2020 with her loving family by her side. She was born July 8, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lawrence and Pauline Lewis. Pat received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Detroit, and married David L. Sowa on May 9, 1969. They were happily married for 47 years before Dave’s passing. She was an elementary and English as a Second Language teacher for over 30 years. She also volunteered at Troy Beaumont Hospital in the gift shop for over 9 years. Most recently, Pat enjoyed her new friends at The Reserve at Hamilton Trace.
Pat’s motto was YOLO (you only live once) and she lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel and took some amazing trips. Her family and friends brought so much joy to her along with spending time at their cottage. Pat had a warm smile, a wonderful sense of humor and loved being with people. She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader at their events. Everyone whom had the privilege of knowing or meeting her had a friend for life.
Pat is survived by her children, David M. Sowa (Amy), Donna M. Barker (Alan) and Julie A. Richardson (Bryan); and grandchildren, Evan, Rachel, Andrew, Megan, Owen and Anna. Patricia’s husband, David L. Sowa, preceded her in death October 9, 2016. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Lewis; and a sister, Maryann Mitchell.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 3-9 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, Michigan. A brief gathering will follow Tuesday morning, February 4, 2020 from 9 AM until time of mass at 9:30 AM at St. Rene Goupil Catholic Parish, 35955 Ryan Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan. Committal service will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Road, Clinton Township, Michigan.
