It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Mathew Schafer, a beloved father, brother, son, uncle, and friend who brought laughter and light into our lives. Paul passed away on August 3rd, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and love.
Born on March 10th 1971, Paul was known for his infectious sense of humor. Whether he was cracking jokes, pulling pranks on people or telling one of his numerous stories he just loved making anyone around him laugh. He would start a conversation with anyone wherever he was and that’s why he has so many friends. He would help many people within the neighborhood and will be greatly missed by many who loved him. Paul had a knack for making those around him feel loved and appreciated. His hard work ethic was evident in everything he did, from his career to his hobbies.
Paul started his career at a young age with his dad and brothers doing cabinet work and stayed with it for the majority of his life, which led to his skill and knowledge of many other trades.
Paul is survived by his children, Danielle Schafer, Ryan Schafer; his former wife and best friends, Deb Schafer; a furbaby, Bailey; his mother, Johnnie Schafer; his siblings, Steve (Denise) Schafer, Donna (Marc) Fulker, Kelly (the late Charlie) Simpson, Tammy (Larry) Ellis, Theresa Shafer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Schafer, and brothers, John P. Shafer and Nick Schafer.
A visitation for Paul will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035.
