Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 27, 1959, she was the beloved daughter of William and Rita Schlicker and one of four children. Sandy grew up in Hazel Park, where she attended Hazel Park High School. A proud Viking, she served as captain of the Vikettes and graduated with the Class of 1977. Athletic and spirited, Sandy had a lifelong passion for sports—especially softball and hockey. Her bubbly personality, fun-loving nature, and competitive spirit made her a joy to be around both on and off the field. It was on the softball field at Softball City, at the Michigan Fairgrounds, where Sandy met the love of her life, Gary Steiner. The two married on April 20, 1979, and went on to share 46 years of love, laughter, and family together.
Sandy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A strong Christian, she proudly considered herself a “Prayer Warrior,” and believed deeply in praying for others. She faithfully lifted up others in prayer every day. For 20 years, Sandy was a dedicated employee of Troy Schools, serving as both a bus driver and custodian. She touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness, humor, and ready smile.
Beyond her faith and athletics, Sandy delighted in life’s simple joys, from candy making—a craft she perfected and shared with pride—to long road trips and traveling to new places with family. Of all her blessings, Sandy most cherished the time she spent babysitting and caring for her grandchildren, who brought endless joy to her life. Sandy will be deeply missed by family and friends alike, all those blessed to have known her.
Sandy leaves behind a legacy of love, and is survived by her husband, Gary Steiner; children Susan Steiner, Laura Harborsky (Derek) and Gary Steiner Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren Violet, Annie, Rio, Sophia, Judah, Joseph, Leaf, Hailey, Luna, Summer, Sierra, Indy, and Jesse; and brothers Gary, Larry and Steve Schlicker.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 22, 2025 from 2-5 PM, with a funeral service at 5 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038. A brief reception will follow. Final interment and resting place, White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
