Earl David Hoag, 79, of Auberry, CA, entered into rest on Friday, November 27, 2020. Dave, as most people knew him, was born September 9, 1941, in Ventura, CA, and grew up there and in Ojai with his two cousins, Nadine and Edie, who were like sisters to him. He later moved to Port Hueneme, and graduated from Oxnard High School in 1959.
While in high school he developed a love of racing cars and was a member of the Road Rods Car Club of Oxnard. With his good friend Carl Nitsche, he owned and raced a 1956 Chevy, and at one point held a national NHRA record for a D/Gas Class Fuel Event. He was an avid racing and NASCAR fan to the end.
In 1968 he married Margret (Margie), his sweet-heart, and the love of his life. At the time he had two daughters, Kim and Cheryl, and she had a son, Darrell. On their first anniversary, they happily welcomed into their lives another beautiful daughter, Suzanne (yours, mine and ours).
Dave had a long, successful career of 32 years’ service with the Southern California Edison Company, starting out as a “grunt” and working up to Lineman, various Foreman positions, and retiring as a General Supervisor. Most of his years of service were with the Thousand Oaks District where he met some of his closest and lifelong friends. He loved his job and the comraderie he shared with his fellow workers. After SCE retirement, he contracted out to PAR Electrical Contractors, among others, for several years. He often told stories of odd, funny, dangerous or heartwarming things that happened during his years on the job. He was a great story-teller.
The family spent many Summers vacationing and camping at Edison Campground on Shaver Lake where he taught his children (and many others) to waterski behind his pretty blue ski boat. They would gather on Edison Cove with lots of like-minded friends, many of them from his Edison years, who held the same vacationing interests. They were very happy years.
Besides his family and cars, another love of Dave’s was long-range deep sea fishing out of San Diego into Mexican fishing waters, usually aboard the Qualifier 105, sometimes serving as one of the Charter Masters. Daughter Suzanne happily joined her Dad on a few of those trips. It wasn’t just the thrill of the catch, which was awesome, but he so enjoyed being with his friends and fellow fishermen.
After retiring from SCE, he and Margret moved from their home in Camarillo, CA to Auberry, to be among friends and in the area they loved. They also were lucky enough to travel together with friends and family in their motor homes around the United States. The highlight was a six-month trip from California to New York through the southern states. Their “tour guides” were good friends Wayne and Diane who had taken the same route before and knew exactly where all the best places were to visit.
Dave is survived by his wife, Margret Hoag; daughter Kimberly Rock and husband Ed; daughter Cheryl Salinas; son Darrell Owens; and daughter Suzanne Hoag; grandchild Gina Moradzadeh and husband Josh; grandchild Cory Salinas and grandchild Danay Salinas. He also leaves behind his brother Bill, sister’s-in law Cathy Hoag, Jennifer Lorenzana, Lorene Cudia and brother in law Dean Cudia, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families, and many friends, to cherish his memory.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Nellie Hoag; brother Eddie Hoag and sister JoAnn Cook.
No public services are scheduled at this time. Future celebration TBD.

Dave will be so missed by all, but, as his daughter, Cheryl, quoted from Dr. Suess, “Don’t cry because its over…Smile because it happened.”
