The family of Edwin B. Capps is heartbroken to announce the passing of this beloved man who taught us life’s lessons through his outdoor adventures and quiet conversations. Ed passed away on August 26, 2021 at the age of 90.
A Celebration of life for Edwin will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Community Church, 4620 East Nees Avenue, Clovis, California 93611.
Ed touched the lives of many people in our area through his longtime swimming pool business, Burnell Pools, and in his hunting and fishing outings across the west. He was most comfortable in his beloved cabin at Fish Camp on the road to Yosemite National Park, and in his many camping trips throughout the region.
He was a mentor to anyone who sought out his help, and easily made friends. He was especially close to his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ed always was there to help in times of crisis, sadness or great joy. He loved his family, and he was especially thankful for the blended families he became a part of over the years. He was especially close to his step-daughter and step-sons along with his many grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was an important role model to the children of his sister, Barbara Boren, and brother James Capps. Their memories of Uncle Ed could fill a book, and they are forever thankful that he was in their lives as they grew up.
Over the years, our families blended. Twenty-three years ago, Ed and Beverly had another chance at love. They married and started another chapter of this loving family.
Quiet on the outside, Ed offered great wisdom to his family as they worked their way through life’s turmoil and challenges. How could you not be upbeat when Ed was sharing ice cream with you as you chatted? He loved his ice cream, whether it was on a stick or in a bowl. Family, fishing, hunting and ice cream were part of his formula for a great life over nine decades.
He swelled with pride as he taught granddaughters, grandson, nieces and nephews to fish, and they landed that first memorable catch at Dinkey Creek or the many other fishing spots in the Sierra. They loved spending the night at the cabin, and learning how to tie flies, gather firewood and share stories around the campfire.
As the family sang, “You Are My Sunshine” and “Red River Valley,” Ed accompanied them on the harmonica.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Correena and Shelley; sons, Eric and Todd; grandchildren, Amanda, Erika, Katrina, Austin, Breanna, Shaylene and Sherry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Capps, and his sister, Barbara Boren.
