Norma Coleyne Chumley

Norma Chumley, beloved grandmother, wife, mother, and sister passed peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer and was reunited in the kingdom of heaven on April 28th, 2017. She was born July 14th, 1933 in Roswell, New Mexico. She and her high school sweetheart, Howard, wed and had 3 boys. Norma was a stay at home mother for many years. The Chumleys moved cross country following Howard’s job to many places in California including Victorville, Orange, Napa, San Jose, Madera and Fresno. She worked at Mervyn’s in the jewelry department for many years and moved up quickly into a management position. After leaving Mervyn’s she worked with Howard at Derrell’s Mini Storage for over 20 years. Norma continued to work part time at Derrell’s until retiring at the age of 80, totaling almost 30 years of service.

Norma was a devout follower of the Christian faith and a long time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Clovis. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, making silk flower arrangements, listening to country-gospel music and reading romance novels. She had a lifelong love of native-american art and southwest inspired décor from her time in New Mexico. She had a soft spot in her heart for cats, and rescued many strays later in her life.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Chumley, and her sons; Terry Chumley and Wes Chumley. She is survived by her son, Gary Chumley of New Mexico, her granddaughters; Sarah Chumley-Johnson and husband, Eric, and Kayla Chumley, all of Clovis. Norma also leaves behind three great-grandchildren; Rylee, Eli and Soliea, and four fur-babies; Tripper, Shiloh, Jett and Misty.

Visitation will be held at Boice Funeral Home on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4:00 til 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at Clovis Cemetery on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a fellowship luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Clovis First Assembly of God to benefit the church’s children’s ministry and food pantry, 1185 Sunnyside Ave., Clovis, CA 93611.
