Born on September 13, 1944 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Roger was the son of Leo and Alma Wiens. As the oldest of four siblings and growing up on a farm, he learned a deep sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic.
After meeting Carmen at a choir performance, Roger and Carmen fell in love and wed on August 27th, 1966. Then began the adventure of raising a family, singing together, countless projects around the house, and the joy of laughing together. Their love stood the test of time, and through many joys and sorrows, shone brightest in the end.
Roger graduated from Fresno Pacific University in 1966 and went on to dedicate more than three decades to teaching at Sanger High School. As a beloved history, government, and driver's education teacher, Roger impacted countless students with his passion for learning and his genuine care.
Known for his unwavering faith in Christ, immense love for his family, a hardworking nature, and an easygoing sense of humor, Roger touched all those he knew. He was a part of Trinity Community Church and a lifelong singer, sharing his voice in church and with the Mennonite Men’s Choir.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carmen; their five daughters: Christi, Dareth, Erika, Tiffany and Hillary; and 22 grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of his life. He is also survived by brothers, Gerald and Gene. His sister, Bonnie, preceded him to heaven.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 11:00 am at Trinity Community Church, 12168 North Willow Avenue, Clovis, California 93619. All who knew Roger are welcome to attend.
