Dear Denise and Brielle, 

We just heard the news, and honestly still in shock.  None of us can believe it’s true.  He’ll be missed terribly and already is.  He was such a big part of this neighborhood for over 20 years.  We watched each others kids grow up and lots of laughs, and chats will never be forgotten.  The fireworks every fourth.  Our kids will  never forget the kindness.  You guys are honestly the reason we stayed..  I don’t know your plans, but I just want you both to know we will always be here  for you!   Love, Prayers  always!   The Mattox family! Mr lane had an immense impact on my drive to be a better person for my family and my community, being a former student of his i always appreciated the spirit he brought to the classroom environment let alone the one on one talks we would have it was as if the words were coming from a father figure and an endearing friend. My life will forever be impacted by the impression he left to me.

I had Mr. Lane as a teacher for a few classes at FCC. You can tell he gave his all into teaching and that he genuinely cared about his students. Not only was he professional about the subjects he taught, he also taught lessons of life. How to be a better person by being honest and fair. Also, by caring for others and especially to those closest to you in life.  To not take time for granted, but appreciate the time we have and to spend it worthily. 
He was an excellent teacher and will also be dearly missed by the students whose lives he touched.

I am very sorry for your loss. I found out about his passing from my son who was a former student of his at FCC. He really liked him and my husband and I got to meet him at a party held by a friend who also passed on. Gone too soon. RIP.

Though I did not have many interactions with my neighbor, the ones I did have are to be cherished forever. I fondly remember the time Russ caught me outside of my house and complimented the Nirvana shirt I was wearing. It was a simple conversation, maybe 5 minutes in total, but the next time I saw him he gave me a brand new Nirvana shirt that he had bought for me at a swap meet. It was so out of the blue, the initial conversation didn’t even stick in my mind until I saw him that next week. There was no reason for him to do that besides pure kindness, and it absolutely made my day and touched my heart. I strive to be that generous. My closet has seen many a band t-shirt, but that is one that will remain with me forever.
The joy and kindness Russ gave to others will never be forgotten. I pray that God surrounds you with love & a flood of happy memories in your time of grief.

TMTMTL....Met Russ back in the late 90s when we worked at Chuck E Cheese. He was instantly one of those people you wanted to be around. So much fun, so much happiness, so much positivity. I sure miss those early days. Over the years and moves, we naturally didn't hang as much, but always kept in touch. He sent me and Kyle Grandstaff care packages when we went to boot camp, he let me crash at his place when I was stationed near Fresno, and he even honored me by being one of my groomsmen. It's hard to believe that someone with so much life is no longer physically here. Love you buddy. Rest easy Grandma Russ.

Russell and Denice joined us for our granddaughter’s wedding in Hawaii in September, and we really enjoyed their company.  He was a very sweet man who was accommodating me and everyone else by making sure we had water to drink and making sure I was safe walking to and from the wedding and reception.  A very lovely man who enjoyed life and knew how to have fun.  We will truly miss him.  Love, Aunt Natalie Galvan

I last spoke with Russel on Christmas Eve, and ended the conversation with a promise to "reach out again soon." Unfortunately, I reached out on Tuesday evening and was told of his passing just the day before... I will never forgive myself for that.

Russel wasn’t just a teacher; he was a mentor, a best friend, and like family to me. He had a rare gift for seeing the best in people and helping them see it too. His influence went far beyond the classroom—he taught life lessons that shaped so many of us into better people.

He often joked about being "the man, the myth, the legend," but those words couldn’t be more true. His impact was legendary. So many of his students, myself included, wouldn’t be where we are today without his guidance, wisdom, and unwavering belief in us. Though without a doubt, his greatest gift was the love he had for others.

Losing him has left a pain that will never fully go away. But his legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the kindness he shared. To honor him is to carry forward his example—lifting others up, leading with compassion, and striving to be better every day.

The world is a better place because of you, someday I hope I can claim that I made a fraction of the difference in someone's life that you made to the lives of each and every one that knew you.

Russel, you left a void in our lives that will never be filled. You will forever be missed, loved, and remembered. Thank you for everything.

Russell was an extremely good friend he helped me when no one else would . Loved being around russ he was funny and out going the world has truly lost a very special and talented man he cared about family and friends . I feel honored to be friends and know Russ and Denise my heart and prayers go out to the family and will always keep them in my prayers love you Russ see ya on the other side
