Shirley Ann was born to Richard and Doris Heron on August 2, 1928 in Glendale, California. The first 12 years of her life were spent on a farm in Shackleton, Saskatchewan along with her brothers, Jim, Pete, and Ron. Her family immigrated to Southern California where she would meet her future husband, Don Loakes on a blind date. They married 6 months later, moved to Granada Hills and raised their three children, Rick, Ken, and Susan.
After Don's death in 1982, Shirley moved to Clovis, California. She was a person who loved to learn, was energetic, kind-hearted, determined, a card shark, fun and funny. Shirley traveled the world with her friend Jack, making friends and experiencing other cultures along with some wild adventures! She was an incredible cook, a talented quilter, a lover of crossword puzzles, an avid reader and a
lifelong Dodger fan. Her warm and welcoming spirit will be missed greatly every day by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her brother Ron, her children, her grandchildren, Ashlei, Ali, Nathan, Michelle, Robert and Peter, six great grandchildren Leila, Madyn, Emma, Zoey, Bodhi and Sage, nieces, nephews, and friends from around the world.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley would have been honored to have any remembrances made to: sweeteatsprogram.org. This amazing organization supports the families of oncology patients at Valley Children's Hospital where her granddaughter, Madyn, was treated for leukemia.
