Steven Francis Hopelian, born on August 15, 1949, in Fresno, California, was the son of John and Isabelle Hopelian. He was the only boy, and his sisters, Sandy and Sharon, often joked that he received all the attention growing up. From an early age, Steve was active and competitive, playing football, baseball, and basketball—sports that would remain a lifelong passion and source of pride.
Steve also proudly served in the Army Reserves, honoring his commitment to serve and protect his country.
Steve passed away on February 17, 2026
Steve met and married his first wife, Cris, and together they welcomed two daughters, Kimberly and Mikki. He worked hard as an electrician alongside his father, determined to provide a stable and loving home for his young family. In 1981, tragedy struck when Cris passed away, leaving Steve to raise their daughters on his own—a role he embraced with remarkable strength, devotion, and unwavering love.
Later in life, Steve met and married Pati, who had two sons, Joe and Rick. Together, they blended their families and were lovingly referred to as “the Brady Bunch.” Three years later, they welcomed their daughter Sadie, completing the family that was the center of Steve’s world.
Steve and his father went into business together, forming Hopy’s Electric Corp. Through hard work and dedication, the business thrived, and Steve eventually bought out his father. He took great pride in building a good life for his family, while still enjoying sports, friendships, and trips to Las Vegas for fun.
A passionate sports fan, Steve loved reliving his glory days and cheering on the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants. He eagerly awaited March Madness each year and never missed an opportunity to place his bets—especially at the Treasure Island Sportsbook. Family meant everything to Steve, and he always found reasons to gather everyone together. His home on Constellation Avenue was known for barbecues filled with laughter, good food, close friends, and unforgettable stories.
Steve’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. He felt incredibly blessed to have twelve grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. He loved playing with them, spoiling them endlessly at Christmas and birthdays (even when their parents said no), and simply being present in their lives. He also had a huge heart for animals and never hesitated to adopt more—even when it tested his wife’s patience—because compassion always guided him.
Steve faced pulmonary fibrosis with determination and optimism, believing the strength he built through sports in his younger years would carry him forward long enough to watch his grandchildren grow.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Pati; his son Joe and daughter-in-law Monica, and their children Chelsey and husband Kyle, Haley, Justin and his wife Tori, and granddaughter Teagan; his daughter Kimberly and son-in-law Kevin, and their children Aubrey and Adam; his son Rick and his children Casey and Ricky; his daughter Mikki and son-in-law Aaron, and their children Stevie and Aadon; and his daughter Sadie and son-in-law Khalil, and their children Kai and Kezi, and Shia, who preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his sister Sharon; her daughter Staci and son-in-law Anthony, and their children Dominique, Daniella, Diego, and Donovian; as well as his niece Jaime and brother-in-law Gary. Steve was preceded in death by his sister Sandy.
Steven Francis Hopelian will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—a hardworking provider, a loyal sports fan, a generous host, and a man whose life revolved around family. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Steven was predeceased by his first wife, Chris Hopelian, his sister Sandy Mayfield, his granddaughter Shia Cooper, and his parents, John & Isabel Hopelian.
Steven's life was a testament to the values of honesty and humor, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
