
They were raised east of Clovis on their parent’s ranch. Tom graduated from Clovis High School in 1946 earning many sports awards and letters. He lettered in 5 sports his senior year along with receiving the Sassano Blanket in football. After high school Tom attended Fresno State.
Tom went to work for Fresno County in the Ag Department in 1947 as a Weed Control Foreman, then left to serve his country in the US Air Force as an Inflight Radar Technician for 4 years before returning to the Department and earning Senior Ag Inspector in 1960 then Assistant Ag Commissioner in 1984 until his retirement in 1987.
Tom met the love of his life Leva in 1952 in Sacramento while Tom was stationed at Mather Field. Tom and Leva had three sons, Ron, Scott and Mark. While still working for the Ag Department he made time to devote many hours to his family by numerous outdoor adventures at the cabin and high country.
Tom touched many young folks’ lives as a long time member and coach of the Clovis Boys League Babe Ruth, he loved baseball. He was also a long time member of the Clovis Rodeo Association, Los Rancheros Valley Children Guild, Elks RV Travel Club and many others. He also devoted many many hours for the annual Shaver Lake Trout Derby helping the Elks raise money for Disabled Kids.
Tom and his brothers Jerry and Bill (Sharer Family) were inducted into the City of Clovis Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame as Founders in 2011.
In 2022 Tom was inducted into the Clovis High School Football Hall of Fame as quarterback of his senior team.
His Mother and Father Dutch and Nora along with his two brothers Jerry and Bill preceded him in death.
Tom is survived by his wife of 70 years Leva, his sons Ron (Lisa) Scott (Shandie) and Mark (Annette) along with grandchildren Lauren (Brian), Brooke, Thomas (Onni), Spencer, Caleb (Jaclyn), Lindsay (Jacob), Alyssa Lauryn, and Samantha as well as 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the case workers at CRMC and the outstanding care given at Heritage Crossing of Clovis.
There will be services held at Clovis Cemetery on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following.
