Ascension Perez Gonzales, 79, of Clute, passed from this life peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 28 2015 surrounded by her entire immediate family praying and singing to her. She was born on August 15 1935 in Gillett, TX to Jorge & Trinidad Perez, raised in Sebastian TX and planted her roots in Clute in the early 70s. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Ernesto “Neto” Gonzales; her parents; several siblings and in-laws.
Our mother was affectionately known as “Chonita” to many. She was a loyal wife, mother, “wela,” sister, and friend. Mom never met a stranger and was admired for making people feel like they were part of her family. She fed anyone who entered her home, and her trademark tortillas were enjoyed by many. She worked as a housekeeper for La Quinta for over 20 years until her retirement. Her favorite hobby was tending to her never ending collection of flowers and plants. The legacy she leaves behind by living her life as that example, is true happiness can be found if God and Family (in that exact order) are your priorities.
She is survived by her daughters, Delia Ramos (Santana); Marina Buenrostro (Antonio); and Dina Nunez; her grandchildren: Vanessa, Carlos, Diana, Jessica, Serena, Valerie, Bianca, Dario, Chavela and Roberto; her great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Octavio, and Angelica; sisters: Faustina Perez and Cristina Dubuque; and brothers: Eliseo and Bernardino Perez.
Visitation with the family will be from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday July 1 2015 at Restwood Funeral Home, with a Rosary being recited beginning at 7pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father James Lynes at 10:30am on Thursday July 2 2015 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Clute, where she was an active member for many years.
