

It is with a heavy heart we announce today the passing of Donald E. Crosby. For the last five years Don bravely battled esophageal cancer with the support of his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Shelly, his three sons, Robyn Crosby, Josh Crosby and his wife Melissa, and Jacob Crosby, and also by his stepchildren, Carolyn Dickerson and her husband Jon, Cristen Simpson and her husband Joe, and Clint Sonnier, as well as six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Crosby and his wife Robin, and sister, Diane Crosby. Don was born in Freeport to George E. and Frances Crosby. He grew up learning how to cowboy and working as a deckhand on party boats. He played football and sang in choir at Brazosport High School, graduating in 1961. He attended Sam Houston State and after graduation, joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving at lifeboat stations in California and then on the cutter Valiant out of Galveston. After finishing his service with the Coast Guard, Don spent more time as a deckhand before getting into the fence business, eventually owning and operating Gulf Fence Company, which he ran for over 40 years. He was active in church at First Baptist, Lake Jackson and then Brazos Pointe Fellowship. He was also very active in the community,working with Brazoria County Fair Association, and coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball right up till the time he received his cancer diagnosis. He was a longtime member of Rotary and a regular supporter and participant in the Fishin' Fiesta. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deep sea fisherman, cowboy, and hunter.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8 at Dignity-Restwood Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm. Services will be Wednesday, March 9 at Brazos Pointe Fellowship in Lake Jackson at 2pm.
