In the late 40’s and early 50’s Jay worked for Boh Brothers in Plaquemine, Louisiana and was offered the opportunity to build the new Dow Texas plant. He accepted the job and moved his family to Oak Drive where he lived until his death. Although he had limited education and was self-educated, he went on to patent 3 processes for Dow and worked there faithfully until his retirement in the Mid-Eighties.
In those early years Felix, or Jay as he was known to his family, worked with others to establish St. Michael’s Catholic church and the various organizations within the church as well as the establishment of other community organizations such as ball parks and playgrounds for youngsters.
Jay was always ready to lend a hand to others in their time of need. He could repair anything and explain with paper and pencil how to do many things. He was quick to help his sisters, his nieces and nephews even though most of them lived in Louisiana or beyond. He was an old fashioned “man’s man” and a truly caring Southern Gentleman. He will be missed by many.
Jay was an avid fisherman and made many friends through this sport. He fished extensively in many parts of Texas, in Louisiana, in Mississippi as well as in Mexican waters. He was also the president of the Dow retiree’s Fishing club at Harris reservoir for many years.
A Christian Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, 10/25/17 at St. Michael’s Catholic church followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that one help a person in need or “do a favor” for another person in Jay’s name or donate to the Salvation Army.
The family wishes to thank, Dr.Alrumuth, Dr. Krell and Dr. Okosun as well as the nurses and other staff at Brazosport Memorial Hospital, Oaks Village Rehab Center, his home caregivers Jason and LaNise Davis as well as A-Med Hospice (Diana H.) for the dedicated and loving care provided to Jay during his lengthy illness.
Please comment or sign the guest registry at the church.
