

Harriet Leatrice Long, 84, of Damon, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2026. Born on October 11, 1941, to Elizabeth and William Oakes, Harriet lived a life defined by her unwavering faith and her immense love for those around her.
A truly God-fearing woman, Harriet found her greatest peace within the pages of her Bible and her greatest joy in the company of others. Whether she was out shopping with dear friends or spending quiet moments in reflection, her devotion to her family and her church community was always at the forefront of her life.
Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton Leroy Long; her sons, Marty Long and Clayton Long; her parents, Elizabeth and William Oakes; her sisters, Joann Oakes, Teddy Oakes, Frances Chavers, and Linda Fabrygel; and her brothers, William Oakes and Joe Oakes.
Her legacy of love continues through those she leaves behind. She is survived by her sons, Deaton Long and wife Mona of Georgia, and Milton "Snoopy" Long and wife Casey of Damon. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
She is further survived by her sisters, Sue Batchelor of Damon, Lily Smith of West Columbia, and Gail Farmer of Georgia, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her cherished church family.
In accordance with Harriet’s wishes, there will be no immediate services. The family will host a celebration of her life at a later date to honor the impact she made on all who knew her.
