Irving Richard Zelade

Irving Richard “Irv” Zelade departed this world on July 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old.

He is survived by wife, Mary; and three children, Richard and wife Diana, Charles, and Susan Reid. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Genny Reid Brown (husband Zac Brown), Samantha Zelade, and Andrew Zelade; and his special little guy, great-grandson Reid Brown.

Irv was devoted to his family and was determined to provide the best lives and opportunities possible for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Estelle Zelade; and brothers, Thomas and Donald Zelade; and son-in-law, Jeff Reid.

Irv was an Eagle Scout and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan after World War II. He enjoyed taking rides in vintage aircraft from an early age, beginning with a Ford Tri-Motor flight with his father; in later life, a B-17 Flying Fortress. He made a veterans honor flight in a Stearman biplane in March of this year.

He was also an avid coin and stamp collector. Saturday evenings were devoted to listening to A Prairie Home Companion. He never met a Lutheran joke he didn’t like.

He was baptized in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, and was an active and faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Lake Jackson, where he served in a number of lay positions. His faith in God and eternal life was unshakeable.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church on 501 Willow Dr. Lake Jackson, TX 77566 on Saturday July 29, 2017 at 10 :00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 :00 a.m. Graveside service will be held at Restwood Memorial Park following the funeral service. Lunch Reception will be held at Restwood Funeral Home following the graveside service.

Serving as pallbearers are Zac Brown, Kenny Lamb, Lin Biar, Ron Sprinkle, and Andrew Zelade.
