

Dr J. H. Bertheau was born Oct 5, 1939 in Linton, North Dakota. He was the eldest son of Dr and Mrs. H.J. Bertheau. He attended his first surgery at 12 yrs old. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1961. During his undergraduate years there he was in BlueKey National Honor Fraternity and a member of Phi Eta Sigma Fraternity. During his sophomore year, Bertheau was a young recipient of the Experiment of International Living in Norway. His year spent in Norway allowed him to develop his public speaking skill presenting to various civic groups. Bertheau went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1965. He completed his internship at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis in 1965 and served as diplomat of Board of Medical Examiners in 1966. Bertheau joined the public health service in 1966, a branch of the U. S. Navy, and was immediately sent to Ft Worth, Texas. While there, he met his wife of now 43 yrs, Anna Robinson, formally of Lake Jackson. Bertheau completed his surgical residency at the University of Minnesota in 1970. J.H. and Anna Bertheau have 4 children; daughter Nicolle, married to Michael Sullivan, with children: Rachel, Kyla and Quinn; daughter Natasha, married to Clint Campbell; daughter Hillary, married to Dave Branham, with children: Ashley, Drew, and Anna Kate; and son Torrey, married to Ginna. Bertheau is also survived by his sister, Cindy Bertheau. Dr. J.H. Bertheau has been practicing family medicine for 45 years, 29 of which have been in Lake Jackson. In 1989, Bertheau presided as president of Brazoria County Medical society. He was honored as the Texas State House of Representative Doctor of the Day on several occasions. He volunteered at the Live Oak Clinic in Clute, Texas. He was also an advocate for medical supplies for mission trips to Mexico and Africa through his church and Rotary Club. Dr. J. H. Bertheau was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. The family will receive friends at Restwood Funeral Home on Sunday, December 5th from 4:00 until 5:30 pm and visitors may pay their respects until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson on Monday December 6th at 10:00 am.
