James Douglas "Doug" Briscoe, 73, of Angleton, TX., passed away on January 4, 2022. Doug was born to Jim and Leona Briscoe on January 30, 1948 in Freeport, TX. Doug married Charlene Murray in Las Vegas, NV on February 19, 1990.
Doug proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970. Doug worked for 30 years as a technician in the telecommunications industry for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, later AT&T.
Doug was a proud veteran of the Vietnam conflict, and then went on to work his entire career for Southwestern Bell/AT&T. Doug often said that he had saltwater in his veins, dedicating much of his free time over many years to fishing in Brazoria and Matagorda counties. Doug was the sort of friend you called on for practical help or for good advice. He had made it a point throughout his life to follow the advice of his own grandfather, the late Lee Van Arsdale, successfully managing to never grow all the way up, even past the age of 60. He was a dedicated family man, devoting himself in the early 1980s to being the best single dad he could be. He will be remembered as a loving parent with a vibrant sense of humor and a glint in his eye when he smiled.
Doug is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Briscoe; and parents Jim and Leona Briscoe.
Doug is survived by son Brian (Renee) Briscoe; and daughter Amanda (Edward) Haish; grandchildren Kevin and Laura Rose Briscoe, and Aaron and Madeline Haish; sister Lynda Hunter; nieces Belinda (Tom) Thacker and Denise (Lance) Wortham; and nephew Denton (Theresa) Hunter. He is also survived by step-children Steven (Rhonda) Murray and their daughter Danielle; Stacey (David) Dickey; and their daughter Darienne Miner; and sons Dawson and Dillon Dickey. He is also survived by his companion, Catherine Smith.
A Graveside service will held at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute on January 21, 2022 at 1 p.m.
In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or any other organization benefitting veterans.
