

Janice Katherine Kenaston High died peacefully at home on May 21, 2011 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was born on October 18, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Hampton Ray Kenaston, Jr. and Maurine Bulow Kenaston. She attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida in 1954. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. She was an incredible role model in everything she did. The daughter of an Air Force officer, she continued that relationship with the military life in 1958 by marrying Kenneth H. High, then a First Lieutenant and pilot in the United States Air Force. For the next twelve years they enjoyed military life and raising their young family, and upon her husband’s retirement in 1970 they returned to his native Texas. Jan had been a resident of Lake Jackson since 1972 and was employed by Wommack, Denman & Moore, a Lake Jackson law firm for 23 years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, serving as a member and chairperson of its Pastoral Council, as Coordinator of its Pictorial Directory and as Coordinator of its Prayer Warrior ministry for 5 years. Jan is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kenneth Howard High; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and William Sarles of Seabrook, Texas & Linda and David Carey of Austin, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Susan High of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katherine Sarles Drumm and her husband Tim, Tim Carey, Will Carey, David Sarles, John Carey, Michael High and her great grandson, Luke David Drumm. She is also survived by her second mother, Nancy M. Kenaston of Mary Esther, Florida; sister, Sara J. Kenaston of Jacksonville, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, William and Ruby Kenaston and their family of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and by an infant son, Thomas.
