

John Frank Hamilton, 80, of West Columbia, joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 5, 2015. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 12 at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny. Another memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14 at Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Dialville, Texas in the familial cemetery. The family will receive family and friends at the conclusion of each service.
He was preceded in death by his father, O.C. “Boots” Hamilton, mother, Kitty Acker Hamilton Barclay, step-father, C.B. Barclay, and sister, Bobbie McCann.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Arden Hamilton; children, John Thomas Hamilton (Connie) and daughters Vickie Hamilton-Smith (Jerry) and Valarie Clinkscales (Chadd); grandchildren Katie Clinkscales and Melissa Williams; great-grandchildren Emily and Paul LeBreton; brother J.C. Barclay (Audrey); brother-in-law, Ralph W. “Bo” McCann Jr.; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
An active church member at First Baptist Church of Sweeny, John was a deacon and served on many committees, including chairing the building committee which erected the youth center. He was a chaplain for Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice of Lake Jackson.
Born July 17, 1935, in Bynum, Hill County, Texas, John graduated from Rusk High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Stephen F. Austin. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Education at Sam Houston State University. He completed his formal education at Prairie View A&M University, where he earned his administrative certificate.
A life-long educator, John taught at Edna Elementary School and Angleton High School, and was principal for the former Charlie Brown Intermediate School in West Columbia. He retired from Sweeny ISD as coordinator of the Industrial Cooperative Training program.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice.
