Lynn Dolph Gormey Jr., 88, of Clute TX passed away on August 4 2015 in his sleep at home with his family surrounding him. Jr. (as he preferred to be called) was born to Lynn & Maude Gormey in Velasco TX on April 11 1927, and married his wife Rebecca Brooks on Valentine’s Day of 1959.
Jr. was a hard worker who first served in the United States Navy for 2 years at the tail end of World War 2 and then spent more than thirty years in his career as an industrial painter before retiring from Phillips Petroleum. As hard as he worked, Jr. could play just as hard. Jr. loved to fish (so much so that it was joked that saltwater was in his blood), and he loved hunt (especially ducks), and he was quite accomplished at both. He was a homebody when he wasn’t outdoors or near water; and he loved to spend time with his family.
Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, Lynn & Maude Gormey; his brother Carl Gormey; and his grandson Shayne Allynn James Gormey.
Jr. is survived by his wife, Becky Gormey; sons David Gormey, Richard (Melissa) Gormey, Dennis Gormey; daughter Linda (Lanny) Echols; 5 grandchildren, Jill, Jason, Ryan, Michael, and Kevin; 3 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathan, & Bryson; and his sister, Betty McCune.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to IPH Hospice for their kind and loving support during a time of great need.
Lynn Dolph Gormey Jr. was laid to rest in a private family service in Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
