Mary Geraldine (Mourot) Hatfield

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Willow Drive Baptist church with Reverend Scott McKay officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Park with Mike and Christopher Gretschel, Kristen and Nick Lambert, Phil Morris and Mike Mourot serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Restwood Funeral Home. She was born on March 3, 1929 to John and Quilla Mourot in Morrilton, Arkansas. She moved to Texas in 1951 with her husband, Layfatte, and was a longtime resident of this area. She was an active member of Willow Drive Baptist Church where she loved serving in the youth and senior adult programs over the years. She believed in helping her community by volunteering at the Brazosport Cares food Pantry in Freeport. She also helped teens with their reading at a local school. She showed her energy and spirit in the many beautiful quilts she made for her family that they will treasure for years to come.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Layfatte; their infant daughter, Robin; her parents; her sister, Sue Raines and brothers, Paul and J. M. Mourot. Surviving her are her daughters, Paulette and Husband Mike Gretschel of Lake Jackson; Patricia and her husband Guy Lambert of Richwood; one brother, Glen Mourot of Morrilton, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Christopher Gretschel, Kristen and Nick Lambert and a sweet great-grandbaby, Tyler Gretschel. Survivors also include a nephew, Mike Mourot and wife Janet of Lake Jackson along with several nieces and nephews in Arkansas.
