

Robert Lee “Ray” Sherman, of Freeport, was born, Wednesday, August 15, 1923 in Hunter, Arkansas to Ray Von and Susan Perry Sherman and died Thursday, May 12, 2011 in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 27 days. Shortly after birth, Ray and his family moved to Oklahoma where he graduated from Muskogee High School. Following high school graduation he attended college and then became a United States Marine, honorably serving during World War II. He moved to Freeport in 1952 and then on January 16, 1954 he married Mary Elizabeth Blount. Ray enjoyed a long career with Dow Chemical Company, working as a planner and scheduler. He and Mary loved traveling and took many cruises, traveling all over the world. Ray is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy Grimm and Mavuleen Shelton. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sherman of Freeport; brother, E. M. Sherman of Lake Jackson; sister, Joyce Langkals of Houston, Texas and several, close, extended family members. Visitation will be Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Restwood Funeral Home and services will be at 2:00 pm Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lawrence Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the Restwood Memorial Park Garden of Peace Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Scruggs, Michael Theriot, Tory Demaree, Danny Cisneros, Garrett Blount and Jacob Theriot. Online condolences may be left at www.restwoodfuneralhome.com.
