

Wesley Wilcox is survived by a daughter, Sandra Hartwell & husband Bob of Dallas & a son, Gary Wilcox & wife Barbara of Fredericksburg. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren. Wesley Wilcox was born in Haskell County, Texas on December 27, 1909. He lived his first few years in various places throughout West Texas. In his early teens, he moved to Abbott, Texas, & graduated from Abbott High School. He was a farmer for several years. He married Charleen Marie Burleson on September 22, 1932, in Acquilla, Texas. After graduating from barber school in Waco, he moved to West, Texas where he worked as a barber. In 1943, he went to the Brazosport area to work for Dow Chemical. In January of 1944, he moved to Lake Jackson as one of the early settlers of the town of Dow Chemical had built for its workers. He worked for Dow Chemical (where he was known as “Will”) and owned a barber shop in Lake Jackson until 1974 when he retired from Dow. He loved to make things grow. Every year, his yard was full of beautiful flowers, & he had a large garden from which he supplied vegetables to his friends & neighbors. In 1999 after the death of his beloved wife Charleen, he moved to Fredericksburg to live with his son Gary & daughter-in-law Barbara Wilcox. He celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday, December 27, 2009. The family will greet friends Sunday, November 28th, from 3-4 PM, in Fredericksburg Funeral Home. They will also greet friends 5-7:30 PM, Monday, November 29th, in Restwood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson. Funeral services will be 10 AM, Tuesday, November 30th, in the chapel of Restwood Funeral Home. Graveside services & interment will follow in Restwood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Golden Hub Community Center, Fredericksburg United Methodist Church Foundation, or the charity of one’s choice.
