

Daniel “Dan” Eugene Coon passed into the loving arms of Jesus on August 23, 2018. He was born on December 19, 1929 in Medina, NY. As a child he moved with his parents, Daniel Carl and Ethel Stimson Coon, and sister, Jean C. Hart, to Clearwater, FL. He joined the US Air Force in 1951. While stationed in Tulsa, OK, he met his future wife Joyce M. Blackwell. They married in May of 1953. After serving in Neha Bay, WA he received an honorable discharge in 1955. In 1956 the couple settled in Indiantown, FL, where he was employed by Pratt and Whitney as a Jet Engine Test Stand Technician. They were founding members of the Indiantown Methodist Church. In retirement he created wooden toys to sell at craft shows and was delighted with the children receiving the toys. In 2000 the couple moved to Cape Canaveral to be near their grandchildren. He was a Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching all football games. They attended Riverside Presbyterian Church in Cocoa Beach. In his last years he was afflicted with Alzheimer’s. The family is thankful for the loving care given by his caretakers Kathy and Vicki over the last year.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Coon, children June (Eric) Vaughan, Dan (Kathy) Coon, and Don (May) Coon, grandchildren Daniel W Coon and Charlotte Coon of Florida, and Riego and Carl Coon of California, his sister, Jean C Hart, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, 4676 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne, FL.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 3400 N Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, FL. Interment will be at a later date in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL.
