

Fred Marlett, 87, of Merritt Island, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Fred was born May 3, 1925 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Stanley and Pearl (Leszczynski) Marlett. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary and daughter Carol Marlett Pringlemeir. His older sister Lea Elchuk passed away August 26, 2012.
Fred is survived by his children: Mark Marlett & wife Patricia; Claire Olson & husband Bryan; Brian Marlett & wife Terri. Four grandchildren: Kyle Olson & wife Jayme; Kristofer Olson; Kane Olson & wife Elizabeth; and Christina Wood & husband Michael. Three great-grandchildren: Veronica Olson, Caleb Wood and Caden Wood. Two nephews: Mark Elchuck and Dean Elchuck.
During WWII Fred was a gunner/togglier on B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. He was assigned to the US Army Air Forces, 398th Bomb Group, 601st Bomb Squadron based in Nuthampstead, England. Having completed 27 missions by May 1945, he returned home and was later honorably discharged.
Fred retired from the Detroit Police Department in 1972 after more than 25 years of service. He enjoyed sailing, reading, and tinkering with his tools. He always said “I am doing as I please” “every day is a bonus”.
Services will be conducted by Father John J. Pasquini, pastor of the Saint John of the Cross Catholic Church and will be held:
Saturday September 1st at 1:00 PM
