

Gene S. Nesbit, Sr., passed away September 16, 2011. He was born in Cynthiana, Indiana in 1918 to Calvin and Mary Rose Nesbit. He was employed by the Department of Defense until retiring in 1970. He was initially based in Tucson, Arizona at the Davis Monthan Air force Base where he was involved in site activation for the Task Force Ballistic Missile Defense System Division. In 1963, he moved to Brevard County to work in Space Systems Configuration Management, specifically the Titan III Missile project.
In 1983, Gene began volunteering at the Martin Andersen Senior Center. Always enjoying the game of Duplicate Bridge, he initiated games, served as a bridge teacher, director, and club manager. Gene eventually became President of the Center, a capacity he held for several years. During his time, the center saw unprecedented growth, and in recognition of his service, a portion of the facility was named in his honor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 1994, and one grandson in 2010. He is survived by two sons, Gene Nesbit, Jr. of Indianapolis and Glenn Nesbit of California; daughter-in-law, Deanna Nesbit of Indianapolis; two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
