Jim served four years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. In 2016, Jim was honored during the Space Coast Honor Flight for his service.
Jim retired from McDonnell Douglas after working at the Kennedy Space Center. He was an avid golfer and loved to fish, but his passion was traveling the country in his RV with his wife, Jackie.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, William Everett Griffin and Iona Elizabeth Montgomery; four sisters, two brothers and one son named Joel.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie; sons, Jeffrey (Teresa) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Jay (Beth) of Titusville, Florida; five grandchildren, Britany (Danny) Ratliff, Kyle Griffin, Alexys Griffin, Shannon and Ryan McDaniel; one great-granddaughter, Reagan; three nephews and two nieces.
