

John proudly served in the United States Army, where he was active duty until his retirement in 1982. After leaving the Army, he briefly worked for the U.S. Postal Service before beginning a second career with James Archer Smith Hospital in Homestead, Florida. He later went on to work with Wuesthoff Health System in Rockledge, Florida, where he made many lasting connections.
A lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, John was known for his dedication to service. Outside of work, he was an avid bowler, a hobby he enjoyed for many years until a knee injury slowed him down. John also had a passion for classic, war, and western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace Carmel Hoodock, who was his partner for 52 years. He is survived by his sister, Nancy McElwee of Melbourne, Florida, and his two daughters, Michelle Hoodock of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, and Susan Hoodock Miller of Cocoa, Florida.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Shane Miller for his unwavering support and guidance during this difficult time. They also wish to extend special gratitude to Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice & Palliative Care for their compassionate care and invaluable assistance over the last months of John’s life.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Donations can be made in John's honor to St. Jude's children's hospital or to the ASPCA.
A visitation for John will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, located at 1940 N Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL 32953. The funeral service will follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A committal service will take place later that day, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL 32754.
