Mark graduated from Astronaut High School then enlisted to serve in United States Navy. He served 20 years in the Navy as a Healthcare Administrator and retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
He was preceded in death by his father Leslie E. Derby, and sister Terri Thomas.
Survivors include his mother Rita Derby; wife Sherry L. Derby; sons James (Crystal) McClung, James Earl Derby, Caden Christopher Derby; daughter Lela Tammie McClung; sister Kaylee Derby; brother Tim Derby; 2 grandchildren Luka and Emma McClung; niece Margaret (Isaac) Marren; great niece Eleanor Marren.
