Winter was his favorite time with sledding and ice fishing. He loved his family and worked on sharing the things he loved with them.
Donald Wickwire was a nature lover and an avid and renown fisherman and hunter, summer and winter, in Michigan and Texas. There were numerous newspaper articles on fishing and community activities that recorded his opinions and expertise.
He learned to be creative and made a memorial Gazebo four our mother Betty. He learned to refashion upright pianos into bookcases, gun cases, and furniture. An article in the local newspaper reports that the national Rifle Association (NRA) wanted on of his gun cabinets in their museum in Fairfax, Virginia.
Donald Wickwire was given the State of Michigan Certificate for Outstanding Citizenship by the State House of Representatives in 1973. The American Legion gave him a Citation of Appreciation for his service to their Post #196. He received the Certificate of Live Membership by the North American Fishing Club. He worked with many others to accomplish the fine results of the Carp Rodeos to clean up Union Lake and make it a better place for sports and recreation. He also worked with officials to address cleanup of lakes throughout the Great state of Michigan. He was recognized by Charlton Heston and the NRA.
We will all remember his accomplishments and contribution to our society.
God Bless my Dad
Katherine Wickwire McGookey
