James Edward Turner, a longtime resident of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on September 28, 1942, to Edna Hines and Grant Turner, James was raised with an abundance of love by Leola Turner, who became his devoted mother and guided him into the man he became. James was a man defined by his incredible work ethic and steadfast dedication. For an astounding 57 years, he was a cornerstone of Kenco Logistics, where he earned the deep respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the customers he served. His career was more than just a job; it was a testament to his perseverance and loyalty.
Passions and Joy
Outside of work, James found his greatest joy in the simple and soulful things in life. He was a gifted musician with a passion for the electric guitar, often filling the air with melodies that brought his
family and friends together.
An avid outdoorsman, James spent countless happy hours in nature. Whether he was casting a line while fishing or navigating the woods while hunting with his brothers and friends, the outdoors was where he felt most at home. His warmth and generosity of spirit left a lasting mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family and Legacy
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ada Lee Turner; his parents, Edna Hines and Grant Turner; and the loving mother who raised him, Leola Turner; and a brother Wilson Turner.
His legacy of love and strength lives on through his family, his beautiful daughters: Arletha Turner York, Sylvia (Charles) Yarbaugh, and Melissa Wilkins; his grandchildren that he adored: Czarina
Toinette Woods, Johnny Antonio (Adina) Woods Jr., James Quinten (Taylor) Woods, Justin Jermone Woods, Darrell Owens, Drezdan Wilkins, Ernest Benjamin York III, and Nelson Thomas York; and his great-grandchildren, a host of beloved little ones who will carry his memory forward. His memories will also remain in the hearts and minds of his siblings: AJ (Violet) Turner, Mildred Turner, Roger (Wyleatha) Turner, Hayvard Turner, Eloise (Walter) Person, Otis Lee (Barbara) Turner, Patricia Crock, Monica (Mariece) Hill, Wilma (Spirus) Callaway, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family
members, and dear friends who were touched by his kindness.
Final Farewell
James Edward Turner will be remembered as a devoted father, a loyal brother, and a true friend. His music may have quieted, but the rhythm of his life, one of hard work, love for the outdoors, and
devotion to family, will resonate in the hearts of those he loved forever.
“A life that touches others goes on forever.”
