Voygie L. Holloway

Mr. Voygie Lee Holloway was born on October 26, 1936 in Alamo, Georgia to the late James E. Holloway and Sadie B. Strong. Mr. Holloway graduated from Wheeler County High School, Glenwood, GA. After graduating from Wheeler County High School, he moved to Brooklyn New York to continue his journey. After 20 years of service, he retired from Metro Transit Authority in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Atlanta, GA. Once arrival in Atlanta, GA, he realized he was not ready to sit down. He wanted to continue to spread his laughter, wisdom, and joy to many more people. He came out of retirement to work for DeKalb College as a security guard. Working as a security guard, he was able to do what he loves best which was live, laugh and love. He was often heard saying “That was the best job I ever had.” After 11 years of service with DeKalb College, he retired for a 2nd time. After both retirements, Mr. Holloway faithfully served his community as a Block Captain for his subdivision's Homeowner’s Association.

After taking a lifelong journey and bringing joy, love, laughter, wisdom and support to many people, Friday, March 25, 2022, our Lord and Savior called Voygie home to reward as his earthly struggle would be no more. No more pain and suffering. He is free! Mr. Holloway was preceded in death by his parents James E. Holloway and Sadie B. Strong; son, Gary Holloway; brother, Clarence Holloway; two sisters, Runette Holt and Mamie Gibson.

To cherish his wonderful memories and celebrate his life, he leaves his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Luretha Holloway; three children: Deborah (Marcus) Jones , Kenneth (LaRetha) Holloway and Adina Chavis ; four grandchildren: Tysen Holloway, Jamaal C. Coley, Darius (Aukela) Holloway, Adaia Chavis and Jamila Holloway; five great grandchildren: Jaxson and Noah Holloway, Nariah, Caris and London Coley; three sisters: Edna Mack, Patti (Ernest) Wiggs and Ernestine Counsel; one sister-in-law: Carol Beckles and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
