

William (Bill) Vergil Hammock, Jr., a resident of Phenix City, AL passed away March 28, 2026. Bill was born in Atlanta, GA on Nov. 10, 1953. He was preceded in death by his father William Vergil Hammock, Sr. (2008) and mother Patsy Perdue Hammock (2011).
Bill retired from MARTA after a 25-year career. He loved cars and motorcycles and could often be found riding one of his beloved Harleys around the streets and highways of Georgia and Alabama. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly football, spending hours in front of the TV watching any number of southern teams. Bill loved reading about military engagements of the past with an emphasis on WWI and WWII.
He is survived by his son William Wallace Hammock of Fayetteville, GA; sister Linda Ginn Hammock of Chicago, IL; brother Rick (Vicki) Hammock of Wilmington, NC; nephew David (Brittney) Hammock of Wilmington, NC; niece Alex (Jon) Mills of Wilmington, NC; and great nephews Nathan (8) and Walker (3) of Wilmington, NC. He is also survived by uncle Otis (Darlene) Hammock of Knoxville, TN as well as numerous cousins located throughout the state of Georgia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349 on May 26,2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., preceded by visitation at the same location from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
