

Anthony Wayne Hammett, 72, of College Station passed away Monday afternoon at the College Station Medical Center. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Graveside Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, November 22 at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Pkwy, in College Station.
Anthony was born October 9, 1942 in Westminster, Maryland to Dorothy Marie Utz and Abram Winters Hammett. He attended Harford Junior College for 3 years and also attended the University of Maryland. He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces Group. He served four tours in Vietnam, retiring as Sergeant Major after 26 years of faithful service to his country. Upon retirement, he then served as the Rifle Team Coach at University of Texas at El Paso from 1986 to 1999. He and his wife moved to College Station in 2011.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Abram.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 43 years Diane Hammett of College Station; two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony Wayne Hammett II and Amy of Statesboro, Georgia and Garth Winters Neil Hammett and Kimberly of College Station; one brother, Gary Neil Hammett of Westminster, Maryland; and four grandchildren, Haley Claire, Peyton Laine, Katelyn Faith, and Alaina Grace Hammett.
