
Gerald Dewey Scott (Scotty) passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. His was a life of love, God, family, laughter, friends, and music; a life well-lived. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 9th, at 10 a.m. at the Parkway Baptist Church in College Station, with Rev. Chris Snidow officiating. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery.
Gerald was born and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and met his wife, Julia, while stationed at Camp Gary Army Air Corps Base, in San Marcos, Texas. They married on December 20, 1945 and returned to Knoxville, Tennessee where he completed his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Tennessee. After living and working in Tennessee for 17 years, Gerald accepted a position at Lockwood, Andrews, and Newnam in Houston and moved his wife and family. Gerald took a position with Texas A & M in 1975 and completed his career at the university he had come to love.
Gerald's love of music was exhibited over and over as he served as the music minister in several churches. He passed this love of music on to his children and to many generations of people who sang in his choirs over the years. He and Julia were also very involved in youth activities associated with church and hosted many youth events in their home.
He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Jackson Scott, his parents George and Anne Scott, and his sister Mary Ruth Scott Ambrose.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia Ashberry Scott, his daughter Mary Jeanne Scott Logan, son-in-law Ralph Kent Logan, Sr., his son, Charles Thomas Scott, daughter-in-law Sheila Tinker Scott, his daughter Julia Anne Scott Clark, and son-in-law Harley Kenneth Clark. Gerald leaves twelve beloved grandchildren and thirteen great-grand children.
Gerald was a man of great faith, a modest man who loved his wife, his family and his God. He is loved and will be missed.
