Joe was born at home on November 11, 1938 in the same county as his death. His first through eighth grade years were spent at St Joseph Catholic School in Bryan. Joe and his two younger brothers, Milton and Patrick rode the city bus from Texas A & M golf course to the Brazos County Courthouse. He always helped his brothers get off the bus and cross busy Texas Avenue and they walked the remaining blocks to school. At the end of the school day, all three boys boarded the city bus to make the ride back to the golf course and walk back to Glade & Anna Streets to their home. Joe graduated from A & M Consolidated in 1957. He enrolled at Texas A & M University and spent two years in the Corps of Cadets.
Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a Sergeant during the Invasion of the Bay of Pigs. After service to our country, he came home and began a career with Weingarten's Grocery, working with J.W. Heine for 20 years. After retiring from the grocery business, Joe began a new career in construction with his younger brother, Patrick Marek. Joe would spend the next 40 years working to build and grow Marek Brothers Construction Company. This legacy lives on today as a successful local construction company.
Joe was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, TX. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Joe's passions were his faith and family. Joe was a prayer warrior, praying each and every day and he seldom missed a Sunday mass. He worked alongside many family members during the years and made many friends. He seldom missed a family meal, celebration, holiday or vacation. He enjoyed attending any Texas A & M University sporting events.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph George & Marcella (Machovsky) Marek of College Station; his brother, Milton Edward Marek of Bryan; and a nephew, David W. Marek of West Virginia.
