William Loraine Shook

Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gwendolyn Faye Rice Shook, and younger sister Wanda Sue Peeples of Florida. He is survived by his youngest sister, Judith Ann Sheen of Grapevine, Texas, his two daughters, Patricia Shook and son-in-law Charles Felts Jr of League City, Laura Elam and son-in-law Mike Elam of Katy, granddaughter Nicole Elam, and 13 nieces and nephews.

Bill was born on April 26, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to Lillian Eleanor O’Bannon Shook and Loraine Shook. Growing up in San Angelo, he was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed motorcycles. He began college in 1948 and before completion, decided to join the Air Force in 1951, serving at Nellis Air Force Base until 1955. He then returned to college at North Texas State College in Denton earning a BBA in 1956, where he also met his future wife.

Bill worked for GTE for more than 27 years in various locations around Texas, and after retirement in Bryan, began a second career as a Realtor. Throughout his life he enjoyed painting, golf, fishing, and bird hunting, especially his annual November pheasant hunting trip with friends to Nebraska.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, from 6-8pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station Texas. Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 20, at the same location.
