Allison Lee Buchwald, age 44, of Keller, TX passed away on December 15, 2023. She was born in Beaumont, TX on November 7, 1979, to Keith Neal Buchwald and Lynne (Strong) Buchwald. Allison (Allie) lived in Beaumont, TX during her elementary and middle school years and then moved to Keller, TX where she completed her schooling at Keller High School. As a child, Allie was diagnosed with Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. Rett syndrome affected every aspect of her life, taking away her ability to speak, and to care for herself. She was locked in a body that didn’t respond as she wanted, and while she understood what was being said, she could not communicate verbally. Despite her many challenges, Allie was a spunky and determined girl. She loved music, movies (especially musicals and slapstick comedy), live theater, anything that went fast, and being outside with the sun and wind in her face. She loved spending time in Colorado where she enjoyed snow skiing, canoeing, and white-water rafting with the Adaptive Sports Association. Because of her adventurous spirit, she especially loved trampoline bungee jumping. At home in Texas, Allie enjoyed therapeutic horseback riding, music therapy, speech therapy, massage therapy, and spending time with her friends at Day Star Educational Services. She attended First Baptist Church in Keller enjoying both her own Sunday School class and participating with her parents at their Sunday School class events. Allie was well loved, and she had a positive impact on others throughout her life.
In August 2023, Allie was diagnosed with aggressive ovarian cancer. She bravely fought the disease for four months before she passed away. Allie is now safe in the arms of God. As a friend so beautifully wrote, “Allie’s first real words will be in praise to her Savior, and her first real conversation will be with Him. Wouldn’t you love to see it!”
Allison is survived by her parents, Keith and Lynne Buchwald; her brother, Greg Buchwald; sister-in- law, Lori Buchwald; nephew, William Buchwald; aunts Suzanne Harris, Leslie Kise, and Cathy Buchwald; and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Ted Buchwald, Loraine Buchwald, and Betty Strong; uncles Mike Buchwald and Roger Kise; and niece Anne Marie Buchwald.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Keller, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Allison’s memory to either rettsyndrome.org or thebrightstarproject.org.
