Amro Alawady was born November 3, 1964 and passed away at his home on September 28, 2017. A devoted son and loyal friend, he is survived by his loving father and best friend, Mohamed Alawady. Although he was taken from us too early, Amro is now comforted in the arms of his mother, Sana Alawady.
Amro touched many lives during his short 52 years. He always had a smile on his face and his laugh was exceptionally contagious. Whether with his friends, family, or coworkers, Amro was a man that made everyone around him better. Those of us that had the honor of knowing him are better people because of him.
Shortly after he was born in Kuwait City, Kuwait, Amro and his family moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where they lived for 3 years. During their brief stint in Norman, Amro’s parents attended the University of Oklahoma where Mohamed earned his PhD in Civil Engineering while Sana earned her MS in Library Sciences (she later earned her PhD from Texas Women’s University). His family eventually found their way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Amro spent his “growing up” years. He attended and graduated Episcopal High School in 1982 before continuing his education at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation in 1987, Amro began his professional exploits at LTV which later became Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
Amro had a 30-year career at Missiles and Fire Control that spanned multiple programs, projects, and assignments. Amro was not only dedicated to his job and responsibilities, but he also enjoyed the challenges that those roles presented and the bonds he created while meeting those challenges. During his career, Amro broke the mold of the stereotypical Engineer. His intelligence, ingenuity, and insight was only matched by his wit, personability, and enthusiasm.
Amro lived a simple personal life, unless it had something to do with technology, cars, travel, or the latest gadget. Amro enjoyed researching the latest technological trends, hanging out with friends and family, driving his cars, and being one of the first people to get the newest iPhone.
Amro was a truly blessed soul with an incredibly generous heart and he will be missed more than words or actions can describe.
