Born Dec. 24, 1927, Angelina Sarah Palermo was raised in a close-knit Sicilian family in Rochester, N.Y., by her parents, Maria and Giuseppe Palermo.
Angie attended Heidelberg University and graduated from Bowling Green State University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She married her college sweetheart, Dr. Henry H. Beck, on March 19, 1953. Angie enjoyed a career in journalism, as the food editor for The Citizen newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. Angie and Henry Beck moved to Fort Worth for Dr. Beck's medical residency. They lived in Fort Worth with their daughters, Debra and Melanie, until 1966. During this time, Angie furthered her studies to become a school teacher.
In 1996, Angie began her teaching career in Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (HEB ISD) at the newly-built Donna Park Elementary School. Angie married Leroy Lee on Dec. 31, 1966, and the family moved to Hurst. Angie spent 37 years with HEB ISD, teaching fifth grade and special education. While teaching, Angie continued her education by earning her master's degree at the University of North Texas.
Angie and Leroy Lee enjoyed raising Debra and Melanie in Hurst, traveling in the U.S. and abroad, and playing bridge. Angie was actively involved in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Oak Crest Woman's Club, volunteer ushers at Bass Performance Hall, and numerous bridge groups.
Perhaps Angie's greatest joys have been watching her daughters and grandchildren succeed in school and in their careers. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly, and her grandchildren fondly called her "Grammy." She expressed a tremendous amount of pride in each of their successes, including school and sporting events, college graduations, successful careers, weddings, and births. Angie has been a significant influence for the entire family, with her never-ending love and support.
Angie lived a healthy and happy life for 86 years. She bravely and briefly battled Alzheimer's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma during the past several months. Throughout recent months, Angie's family has been grateful for the love and assistance provided by A Servant's Heart Senior Caregiving Service and Community Hospice.
