Curtis Doyle Lee passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on March 23, 2026. Doyle was born on August 26, 1936, in Cleburne, Texas. He graduated from Handley High School in Fort Worth in 1954 where he participated in numerous sports activities. Doyle received "All District" honors in both football and basketball and was elected co-captain of the teams. A local newspaper referred to him as “Crazy Legs Lee” on the football field. He played American Legion baseball in the summer for Birdville high school and was voted "Most Valuable Player" by his teammates. He also fought in the Golden Gloves Regional Tournament while in high school. After graduating from Texas Wesleyan University with a B.S. Degree in 1958, Doyle joined the U.S. Army and served in the Reserves and on Active Duty. Upon his honorable discharge, Doyle entered the education profession working as a teacher and coach in several school districts in and around Tarrant County. In 1967, Doyle entered law school at the University of Houston and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in 1970. He practiced law in Tarrant and Dallas Counties for over twenty-five years. In 1975, he was elected Justice of the Peace in Precinct 3, Tarrant County, serving for eight years.
During Doyle's lifetime he was a member of many clubs and organizations. Included in these were the American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Tarrant County Bar Association, Dallas County Bar Association and Handley Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of several organizations including the Fort Worth Scottish Rite, the Golf Unit of Moslah Shrine Temple, Alvarado Jaycees, and the Northeast Sertoma Club. Doyle was also a member of the Hurst Lions Club, Northeast Chamber of Commerce, H-E-B Chamber of Commerce, Texas High School Coach's Association, Woodhaven Country Club and Rolling Hills Country Club. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, Kimbell Art Museum and was awarded a lifetime membership in the Mid-Cities Optimist Club where he had perfect attendance for over twenty-five years.
Doyle served on the City of Hurst Zoning Board of Adjustments for thirteen years. After moving from Hurst to Bedford, he served on the City Parks and Recreation Board. Doyle was a faithful volunteer and active member of Compass Christian Church in Colleyville. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and being in the presence of all of his grandchildren whom he adored. Doyle met and married the love of his life, the former Martha Kerbow, while they were teaching at L.D. Bell High School in 1966. Doyle really enjoyed singing and attempted to learn two or three musical instruments, but he was terrible at music! However, he made up for that with his enthusiasm!
Doyle's favorite bible verse throughout his life was Psalms 19:14 from the King James version. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O Lord my Strength and my Redeemer." Doyle took great pride in living his life without any of his children or grandchildren ever hearing a curse word or vulgar word coming from his mouth. His son confirms this fact and reports that the closest his dad came to that type of language was to sometimes mutter "son of a buck," upon hitting his finger with a hammer, or during other self induced moments of pain. Sadly, this affliction/habit has now been passed down from father to son.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations made to the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital or the Faith Works Sunday School Class of Compass Christian Church.
Doyle is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Lee, daughter Karla Lee (Nashville), son Phil Lee (North Richland Hills) and daughter Lisa Berry (Burleson), along with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Doyle will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, TX 76034 on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00AM.
