Carole Anne (Locke) Dollar passed away peacefully on September 19, 2014, with her devoted and loving family at her bedside in her son’s home near Dallas, Texas. Her final days were spent with in-home hospice care after waging a courageous 7-month battle against lung cancer.
Carole was born in Boston, grew up in Harvard, MA, and was pre-deceased by her parents, Kermit and Virginia Locke.
Carole was bright, beautiful, and hardworking. She was blessed with a bubbly vitality and hearty laugh that all combined to ensure her success in a wide range of activities throughout her life. A good student and popular cheerleader, Carole graduated from Bromfield High School in 1963 and graduated from Westbrook College in Portland, ME, in 1965.
After completing the training program in Dallas in 1965, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines and gained seniority during her 25-year career to serve on routes to Europe and Hawaii, in addition to domestic flights. In the late 1980’s, while gradually retiring as a flight attendant, she pursued a second career in real estate, becoming a top-level producer with numerous awards for excellence in realty with Century 21, Prudential, and later for Keller Williams. She was an artist and that translated into many areas in her life beyond painting and drawing. She was a skilled decorator, cook, and gardener, and always took great pride in making her home beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming.
Carole deeply loved her family and was especially happy to become a grandmother.
She is survived by husband Charles Dollar, son David (Sarah) Vaught, daughter Jenny (Tom) Bachar, daughter Brittany Hayashi, sister Martha (Mike) Totaro, and brother Chris (Starr) Locke. She was deeply devoted to grandchildren Alec, Braden, Caitlin, Sydney, Savannah, and Syndal. She is also survived by ex- husband Bob Hayashi and step-sons Tad (Kathleen) Hayashi and Kevin (Madeline) Hayashi, her uncles Bill Locke and Steve Keefe, her aunt Corinne Glazebrook, and numerous cousins.
Memorial services for Carole will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014, 10 am at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Colleyville, Texas, with a reception to be held afterward at the home of David and Sarah Vaught.
