Mrs. Dovie Pearl Lay Equels

Dovie Equels passed away on November 29th, 2023. She was born near Phoenix, Arizona to Roscoe Lay and Kizzie Hunter Lay. Shortly after the death of her father in 1936, the family moved near Van Alstyne, Texas to be near relatives.

Dovie graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1945 and soon moved to Dallas to take a job with Sears, Robuck and Co.'s Catalog Order Plant, where she worked for 44 years before retiring. The first 20 years were spent in customer relations and the last 24 years in the personnel department. She acquired many wonderful friends during her years with Sears.

Dovie married William H. (Bill) Equels, in Dallas, in 1948 and they had one son, James William (Jimmy) Equels. Bill preceded Dovie in death in 1995. Also preceding her in death were her parents, five siblings, and one grandson, Lowell.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Equels and his wife, Linda. She is also survived by her grandson, Kris Equels and four great grandchildren, all of Temple, Texas. She is also survived by two nieces, Rosanne Hunt and Karen Hunt Spangler, both of California.

Dovie was a faithful member of Lonesome Dove Baptist Church in Southlake, Texas for a number of years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lonesome Dove Baptist Church, 2380 Lonesome Dove Road, Southlake, TX 76092.

Dovie's visitation will take place at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd. Colleyville, TX 76034 on December 4th, from 5-7 p.m. Her funeral will be held at Lonesome Dove, Baptist Church at 10 a.m. on December 5th. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243, at 12:30 p.m.
